This glossary can help you prepare for the IELTS writing tasks related to the modes of transportation like Bicycle or car travelling.

bicycle: noun; A vehicle consisting of two wheels held in a frame one behind the other, propelled by pedals and steered with handlebars attached to the front wheel.; Example: The charts below show the reasons why people travel to work by bicycle or by car.
car: noun; A four-wheeled road vehicle that is powered by an engine and is able to carry a small number of people.; Example: The charts below show the reasons why people travel to work by bicycle or by car.
comfortable: adjective; (especially of clothes or furnishings) providing physical ease and relaxation.; Example: The percentage who prefer to travel by car because it is more comfortable is 40%.
conversely: adverb; Introducing a statement or idea which reverses one that has just been made or referred to.; Example: Conversely, the second chart gives reasons for those who choose to go to work by car.
cycling: noun; The sport or activity of riding a bicycle.; Example: 16% say they prefer driving because it is faster than cycling.
environmental: adjective; Relating to the natural world and the impact of human activity on its condition.; Example: It seems that the majority of people who cycle to work do this for health and environmental reasons.
favour: verb; Feel or show approval or preference for.; Example: The highest percentage of those who favour cycling say that this is because riding a bicycle to work is healthier than driving.
health: noun; The state of being free from illness or injury.; Example: It seems that the majority of people who cycle to work do this for health and environmental reasons.
pollution: noun; The presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance which has harmful or poisonous effects.; Example: The same amount of people, 30% say that they cycle to work because it causes less pollution.
prefer: verb; Like (one thing or person) better than another or others; tend to choose.; Example: The percentage who prefer to travel by car because it is more comfortable is 40%.
riding: noun; The sport or activity of riding on bicycle or horses etc.; Example: The highest percentage of those who favour cycling say that this is because riding a bicycle to work is healthier than driving.
surprisingly: adverb; In a way that causes surprise; unexpectedly.; Example: Surprisingly, a similar amount of people said that they cycled to work because it is faster than travelling by car.
